They’re pretty decent runabouts. A guy I work with drove one for two years waiting for his Model S to come in. They are cheap used because the battery packs don’t last all that long. Maybe 5 years they start losin serious capacity so you need to factor the price of a replacement into any purchase of a used one. Also the batteries have gotten progressively better. A 2012 even if it hasn’t lost any capacity holds less than a 2016. I’m not sure if the replacements bring it up to the level of the new ones or not.

They seem pretty legit. I test drove one a few weeks ago for shits and gigs. They have plenty of power and the regen braking is very convenient for city driving. Because you can modulate it while still being on the “throttle.”
I’d highly recommend it if you can charge it at your house. And I’d check up on forums to see what mileage people are getting in the real world.

I used to have access to several Leafs as fleet vehicles. The instant torque is a lot of fun and with the CG low they corner rather well, too. I very much enjoyed driving them. The trunk space is oddly shaped, but as a hatchback they can carry a good bit of cargo, and the back seat has a decent amount of room.
The biggest downside in regular use was that in cold weather, when I was “idling” waiting for a meeting with the heat on, the battery charge dropped a lot. A user should always make use of the heated seats/steering wheel to reduce the need to run the heater. No problem with air conditioning in the summer, though.
And, as stated by others, the battery replacement/charge holding issue impacts the resale . . . although I think it is also impacted by low demand and up front tax rebates.
